Coach Montalto is a 1969 graduate of Arlington High School. At Arlington, he played one year of Junior Varsity Soccer and four years of Basketball and Baseball. At college, Coach Montalto attended Dutchess CC where he earned his two-year Associates degree. He then transferred to SUNY Cortland where he graduated in 1974 with a Bachelors degree in Physical Education and Health. He also minored in psychology while at Cortland State. Finishing off his education, Coach Montalto earned his Masters degree form Western Connecticut State College in Elementary Education. Mr. Montalto began his full time teaching career at Titusville Elementary School in the fall of 1976. During the 1979 school year, Mr. Montalto stayed at Titusville when it became a middle school during Arlington’s first reorganization. Mr. Montalto’s coaching career began at Arlington Junior High in the fall of 1975 where he coached girls soccer, basketball and track. During the fall season of 1977, he was given the position of JV Soccer coach at the high school. Then in August of 1979, he was offered the head coaching position for the varsity soccer team. This fall of 2006 is his 28th season directing the program. Mr. Montalto has been a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for 27 years. In this professional organization, he is the New York State and Regional Chairman of the high school boys Ranking Committee and the high school boys Coach of the Year Committee, for region II, which encompasses New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. Locally, he is the Section 1 Boys Soccer Chairman for Dutchess, Westchester, Putnam and Rockland Counties. Mr. Montalto has earned his “C” license from the USSF and his National Diploma from the NSCAA. He has also been a clinician at numerous camps and coaching clinics. He has been a member of the Olympic Development Staff for Eastern New York. He has also worked as a trainer in many of the local soccer clubs for different age groups. Coach Montalto has enjoyed tremendous success with the Arlington program where he has guided the team to 17 League Championships, 11 Section 1 Championships, 5 appearances in the state finals and 3 State Championships, in 1984, 1999 and 2006. His current record after 27 years stands at 490-78-40. Many of his players have gone on to play at the college level and beyond. A couple of favorite moments at Arlington have included: Being asked to take the varsity program over during the summer of 1979, making it to the state finals 4 times, and having our program honored with the sportsmanship award by the state soccer officials association on three different occasions. Coach Montalto was named the 2006 National High School Soccer Coach of the Year by the NSCAA. |
