Dan Schmitt is a second-year Global Studies teacher at Arlington High School.

Dan graduated from Smithtown High School in 2000. He was a three-sport athlete who captained both his varsity soccer and lacrosse teams. Dan was an All-Section soccer player and an All-County lacrosse player during his senior year. As a high school student he was a member of the National Honor Society and the National German Honor Society. Dan was also a peer-mediator and a member of the On-Target Leadership Club.

Coach Schmitt attended Providence College and graduated in May of 2004. While he attended PC he majored in History and Secondary Education and played on the Division I lacrosse team for one season. Dan also became a member of the National History Honor Society, Phi Alpha Theta. He recently completed his Masters’ Degree in Liberal Studies with a core in History at Stony Brook University in the summer of 2007.

Dan Schmitt began his professional career on the middle school level, teaching American History for two years on Long Island in the Smithtown and Sayville school districts. In the fall of 2006 Dan was able to make the switch to Arlington High School.

In addition to teaching Dan has coached a variety of sports. While working for the Smithtown School District Dan coached Girls’ 9th Grade Basketball, Girls’ JV Lacrosse, Girls’ JV Soccer, Boys’ Modified Basketball and Boys’ Modified Lacrosse. Dan and his teams were also able to captured three league sportsmanship awards.

While working for Arlington, Dan has also coached several teams. He coached volleyball at LaGrange Middle School in the fall of 2007 and Girls’ JV basketball in the winter of 2007-2008. In the winter of 2006-2007 Dan worked the PA system at many Arlington High School home games.

Coach Schmitt’s proudest moment at Arlington came in the spring of 2007 though. As an assistant coach, Dan was fortunate enough to be a part of the first League Championship for Arlington High School lacrosse.
