Mr. Goddard is a 1979 graduate of Arlington High School. During high school he lettered in football and baseball. He attended Cortland State University from 1979 to 1983 and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education. His professional career began with Arlington School District in the fall of 1983 as a substitute physical education teacher at AMS and Titusville MS. This position changed to a full time teaching position in 1984 as an 8th grade health teacher. During his teaching career at AMS, Mr. Goddard taught both Health and Physical Education from 1984 to 2000. He was the Arlington Middle School Physical Education coordinator from 1997-2000. During this time span, Mr. Goddard was the assistant JV football coach (1983) and the head freshman baseball coach (1984). In 1984 he graduated to become the head JV football coach and head JV baseball coach. Mr. Goddard continued as the head JV baseball coach from 1984 to 1993 as well as the assistant varsity football coach from 1985 to 1989. Mr. Goddard also was the assistant men's basketball coach at Vassar College during the 1989/90 and 1990/91 seasons. While teaching and coaching, Mr. Goddard attained his master's degree in education from Western Connecticut State University 1990. In 1994 he replaced long-time baseball coach Joe DeRosa as the head varsity baseball coach. While coaching the varsity baseball team, Mr. Goddard worked as an instructor at University of Notre Dame summer baseball camps from 1995-1998 under coach Paul Maineri. During his tenure as the varsity baseball coach at AHS, Mr. Goddard coached several players who continued their careers at the college level. These players included Matt Veronesi '94 (Nova So. Eastern), Mike Cole '96 (University of Vermont), Dave Vilardi '97 (Univ. of So. Mississippi), Phil Benante '98 and Ben Albright (Cortland State). Mr. Goddard was voted coach of the year in 1998 by the Dutchess County Baseball Coaches Association. He also served as President of the Dutchess County Baseball Coaches Association from 1996-1999. In 1999 he was graduated with a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration from SUNY New Paltz. In the fall of 2000, Mr. Goddard left teaching/coaching and replaced Richard Beams to become the third Athletic Director in Arlington's history (Fritz Jordan 1936-1977, Richard Beams 1977-2000). Mr. Goddard serves as the Section One Sportsmanship Chairman and also sits on the Section One Modified Athletics committee. In 2002, Arlington High was selected as a lighthouse school for Parent for Good Sports Inc. Mr. Goddard continues to serve as a consultant to PGS program facilitators. In 2004 The Poughkeepsie Journal selected Mr. Goddard as their sportsmanship recipient of the year in recognition of his dedication to civility in interscholastic athletics. Mr. Goddard is a lifelong resident of Pleasant Valley where he currently resides with his wife Karla (and dog Cooper). Favorite Team: Professional- Red Sox College-Notre Dame Favorite Athletes: Willie Mays, Cal Ripken Jr. and Joe Montana Favorite Arlington moments: As a player-playing on the 1979 Arlington Baseball team that won 18 straight games to capture the D.C.S.L. Championship. As a coach-assistant varsity coach on the 1987 Arlington baseball team that won the New York State Championship and assistant varsity football coach of the 1987 Section One Bowl Champions (in the same year).
