CRAIG SANBORN

ASSISTANT COACH

BOYS VARSITY SOCCER

Coach Sanborn is 1982 graduate of Arlington High School.  While attending Arlington he played four years of Soccer and two years of Basketball.

After graduating from Arlington High School, Coach Sanborn’s college career began at Dutchess Community College where he earned his Associate degree in Social Science.  While at Dutchess he played two years of Varsity Soccer and was named captain of the 1984 squad.  Upon graduating from Dutchess Coach Sanborn then pursued his education at SUNY Cortland where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education with a concentration in coaching.  While attending SUNY Cortland he played two years of Varsity Soccer and was named team captain in his senior year. Mr. Sanborn then went on to Elmira College where he earned his Master’s degree in Education.

Mr. Sanborn began his full time teaching career at Pawling Elementary School in the fall of 1994.  Here he taught Physical Education K-2.  After two very enjoyable years, he moved on to Arthur S. May Elementary School.  Here he taught Physical Education K-5.  In the fall of 2003 Mr. Sanborn transferred to Arlington High School to take on the challenges of secondary education.

Mr. Sanborn’s coaching career has taken many different paths.  He has coached at the collegiate, high school, and youth levels.  His career started at SUNY Cortland where he was the Men’s Assistant Junior Varsity Soccer coach in the fall of 1988.  In the fall of 1990 he moved back into the area to take on the men’s and women’s program at Poughkeepsie High School.  After two years he moved again to take on the challenges of college coaching at Elmira.  Here he was the Assistant Women’s Varsity Soccer coach and Head Junior Varsity Soccer coach.  After two years at Elmira, Coach Sanborn returned home to teach and coach full time at Pawling Central Schools.  Here he coached the men’s and women’s varsity soccer programs in the spring of 1994 thru 1996.  Coach Sanborn once again moved back to Arlington in the fall of 1996 where he has been the junior varsity soccer coach for eight years and the varsity soccer assistant for the past ten years.

Coach Sanborn has been a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for the past ten years.  Through the NSCAA he has earned his National and Advanced National Diplomas.  Coach Sanborn also has been a member of the Olympic Development Program Staff in New York’s West region.

Coach Sanborn has enjoyed numerous years of working with student athletes and being able to help teach the game of soccer.  A couple of memorable years were being named Poughkeepsie Journal Coach of the year in 1995 and being a part of the 1999 Arlington High School Soccer teams state championship.
