This is the end of the first marking period for the 2004-2005 school year. Please take a moment to read over your child’s report card. REMINDER TO PARENTS: If your child is absent two or more days, you may request homework assignments through the Guidance office by calling the Guidance secretary. You must call by 8:00 a.m. on the day you would like the assignments. We are not able to get your child’s books but there is someone in school until 9:00 p.m. if you need to get them.

SPECIAL LEAVE PASSES: A student who has a note from home giving him/her permission to leave school before the end of the school day should bring the note to the Main Office upon arrival at school in the morning. His/her name will then be placed on the attendance list so teachers know when a student will be absent from their classes. When it is time for the student to leave and the parent or guardian arrives, the student will be called from class. Parents are reminded that they must sign students in and out of the building on such occasions. A child will not be released to anyone other than a parent unless they are listed on the emergency card or provide a written note signed by the parent.

HEALTH OFFICE INFORMATION: Whenever your child is absent from school a written excuse must be presented to the Health Office upon his/her return as soon as the child gets off the bus. The excuse must state your child’s name, the dates he/she was absent, and the reason for the absence. Starting in December, students should carry their new photo ID as this will be scanned in the attendance process.

A student may not bring medication to school. If there are conditions which may require that a student receive medication during school hours, your physician must send a written statement to the school nurse with the following information: Name of student, diagnosis, medication, dosage, time to be given and length of time medication is to be given. All medication must be brought to school by a parent and kept in the Health Office. A parent permission note is also required. For your convenience, we have a form available upon request for your physician to complete.

If your child incurs an injury requiring a medical excuse from physical education class, written permission from your physician is required to resume activities.

NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY: The purpose of the LaGrange Middle School National Junior Honor Society is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulate a desire for community service, promote leadership, develop character, and encourage citizenship.

Candidates are eligible for membership in eighth grade. Students must have a cumulative average during middle school of 90% with no grade in any subject below an 80% on a report card. A faculty council consisting of five teachers will evaluate the eligible students on the basis of academics, service, leadership, character, extra-curricular activities and citizenship. Students will be nominated based upon their performance during all their years in middle school. Current members of the Eighth Grade class will be contacted during the month of December if they meet the minimum academic requirements. They will then be given an application packet to complete. Candidates who are accepted will become members during a special induction ceremony. National Junior Honor Society members will participate in service projects in the school as well as in the surrounding community.
